Hamas Fires Its Longest Range Missiles into Israel

Hamas fired five of its longest range Grad missiles into Israel today continuing fighting that heated up on Nov. 4th, after an Israeli raid in Gaza to close a tunnel made to kidnap Israeli soldiers. The Reuters report says that both sides are still commited to the Egyptian-sponsored truce. What truce?

Hamas is and has always been a terrorist organization, bound by its charter to the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. As long as it’s goals stay the same, so will the situation in Gaza. The UN, and EU are clamoring for Israel to re-open border crossings to allow fuel and humanitarian aid into Gaza, but, the only thing that comes back are rockets. Hamas has made the south of Israel almost unlivable. Almost all of the residents of Sderot have fled inland, and the population of Ashkelon, one of Israel’s most important port cities, will be on its way out if long range rocket fire continues. The Israeli’s cannot continue to live like this.

The incoming Administration’s aides have been in talks with Hamas since Obama’s campaign began, and they are apparantly ongoing. Hamas is not a partner for negotiation, it is a terrorist group that keeps its own people living in garbage and is intent on destroying a peaceful nation. America and Israel should stay strong in their opposition to terrorist control of any future “Palestinian” state. If Obama’s Administration can’t recognize who its allies are, Israel must do what it has to do to keep its citizens safe.

Forced negotiations are only a barrier to real solutions.
