From Laurie Kellman and Erica Werner at Townhall:
Roland Burris failed to capture President-elect Barack Obama’s old Senate seat Tuesday in a wild piece of political theater, but the Democrats’ opposition cracked when a key chairwoman said seating him was simply the legal thing to do. Democratic leaders, set to meet with Burris on Wednesday, were searching for a way to defuse the dispute before it further overshadows the 111th Congress.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein stated, “Does the governor have the power, under law, to make the appointment? This issue is a pertinent example of how organized the Democratic Party truly is. Now that they practically have the keys to the kingdom, they are bumbling fools who cannot take the heat. In the season of ‘bailouts,’ Democratic leaders are eagerly awaiting U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald to bail them out, and indict Blago, thereby justifying their ‘stiffing’ of Burris who has done nothing wrong. What is Burris supposed to do? Reject the opportunity to be a Senator? Why? Given the history of the corrupt Chicago political machine, let’s hope the ‘ONE’ rises above the deliquency of his many controversial ‘acquaintences.’ Meanwhile, the Republicans are sitting back comfortably, taking in the scenery, happily watching the Democrats destroy themselves prior to inauguration day! If the Dems think this issue is complex, they best fasten their seatbelts because the ‘ONE’ is planning a massive 800 Billion Stimulus Package. If the Democrats can’t take the heat, they should save everyone’s time and simply quit; no hard feelings, heck, we’ll even make sure good ole Barry gets you healthcare (if he even gets that done) although, they won’t qualify for their precious Welfare until next year with their consummate reckless spending habits.
