Palestinian SS Ties: The Truth About Nazi Ideology in the Middle East

Mark Hemingway makes an obvious historical connection today on the Corner; one pro-Palestinians and Jew-hating Liberals keep forgettting:

All this talk Palestinians comparing the Jews to the SS is even more ridiculous if you know a little bit about the history of Palestinian nationalism.

Just last night I was reading Hamas Vs. Fatah: The Struggle for Palestine, an excellent new offering from NRO contributor Jonathan Schanzer. In the book Schanzer notes that Haj Amin al-Husseini, mufti of Jerusalem from 1921-1948 and the first prominent leader of the Palestinian nationalist movement, established ties with SS head Heinrich Himmler during World War II and even helped create the Handjar SS battalion raised among Bosnian Muslims in the Balkans that fought for the Third Reich.

When Palestinians, and Anti-semites make the Israel-SS connection, they should take a step back and remember the real history of the Palestinian movement. The Nazi Roots of Palestinian Nationalism is an informative source available for free download from the Horowitz Freedom Center’s Terrorism Awareness Project.
