UCSD CR Chair Threatened Legal Action Against CCR Co-Chair

From Leigh Wolf, Co-Chair of California College Republicans:

I wasn’t going to release this e-mail but after seeing recent blog posts regarding the UCSD situation I was left with no choice. At the College Republicans meeting during the California Republican Party convention we welcomed some of the biggest names from around the state. These speakers included gubernatorial candidates Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner as well as the Chair and Vice-Chair of the state party.

Also present were countless elected officials from around the state. Inez Feltscher and the rest of the students accusing the CCR ExComm of corruption, decided to hand out a “press release” that detailed the extensive in-fighting at UCSD. There was no contact info on this “press release,” it was basically a hit piece. CCR does everything in it’s power to maintain and professional image. I was not happy because the entire state leadership was watching a CR club air their dirty laundry to the entire delegation. These actions served no purpose other than to make CCR look childish and petty.

I called over one of the students handing out the “press release” and told him to leave. I then told him if he pulled something like this again I would publicly embarrass him and make him famous to all of CCR. This was deemed an illegal “threat” by Inez Feltscher. She sent me this e-mail (see attached) warning me that i could be facing a lawsuit if I continued to threaten them with public humiliation. Inez Feltscher and her ilk are loose canons and shameless opportunists.

They are playing CCR politics with their clubs in-fighting to benefit one slate. The idea that a CR would threaten to sue the CCR ExComm for threatening to embarrass them for acting like children is both laughable and foolish.

You can see the e-mail from Inez Feltscher here. A statement from Ryan McNicholas, CCR Central Coast Vice-Chair, and the 1 vote for UCSD chartering is up on CR Nation.

Leigh, I’ve seen your videos, I like how you’ve brought so many people out for the CRs. You are risking your good name by sticking up for the wrong side here: UCSD has a club and there are no excuses for taking away their credentials. I might hold a different opinion if Megan’s “club” were really holding meetings, e.g. if it were really a club. It is not.

You complain that Inez is “accusing” you of corruption. Well how technical would you like to be? When someone says that a politician is corrupt, what they usually mean is that the politician is taking money/bribes to make the wrong choices. Obviously I don’t think you’re taking money. That still leaves the problem that your mighty “ExComm” is making the wrong decision.

It seems to me that the executive board doesn’t like Adam Ellison. Guess what? I don’t like Adam Ellison. He left a bad taste in my mouth with those pseudononymous letters (I can’t prove they were from Ellison, but gee wiz) to CR Nation after last year’s CCR convention. However, you cannot simply uncharter one of your clubs because you don’t like who that club is supporting.

Lastly, if CCR or the CRNC, anybody, did this to my club, guess what I would do? I would print a press release making the case for myself and go to my state party. Sound familiar?

    “CR from another state”,

If you are from another state how do you know their club is not holding meetings? I can tell you that the Triton College Republicans do in fact have meetings, and table twice a week. What is most ironic is that the Triton College Republicans retained the old charter, membership list, and officers, and Inez herself would have been a delegate for their club to vote for Ellison, if she so chose. While there were not two clubs back before the election in November there were certainly distinctions in the officers/members, and to borrow a comment from another blog:

Without getting into all of the internal drama here, I can tell you one thing that’s very difficult to dispute – and that just about any republican campaign staffer or candidate in San Diego will easily confirm. There are most definitely two separate, operating chapters at UC San Diego (the notion that one is a paper club that never meets and has no members is completely false). And while both may be operating chapters, the Triton chapter and its members clearly set themselves apart in the past election by busting their asses walking precincts, phonebanking, and volunteering on practically a daily basis for any campaign that needed their help – while the College Republicans at UCSD often committed and rarely, if ever, delivered.

I’m not a CR any longer, but as I recall, the purpose of being a CR was to get republicans elected. If that’s really the case, it should be pretty clear which ones are the REAL CR’s at UCSD.

Please, read my letter and decide if I was not being much more respectful than Leigh Wolf was to me and my club, either at CRP, or online at http://danareport.com/2009/02/24/revolutionize-ccr-party-big-hit-at-crp/. Just please click that link.

Also, at the time of the elections, there was ONE club at UCSD: the College Republicans at UCSD. Triton did not do any walking for precincts, etc., although officers in what is now Triton CRs certainly did, as representatives of UCSD. This is sad part about this, that a club that was once unified has been ripped apart. However, I challenge the idea that Triton is an active club. It is now not even recognized by the University as a legitimate student organization. (See http://wailua.ucsd.edu/studentorg/StudentOrgList.aspx?frmLetter=t). Where are their events? What have they done, aside from make life miserable and work difficult for the College Republicans at UCSD? We have weekly meetings with robust attendance, and both have had and will continue to hold a variety of events both on campus and off, including debates with the College Democrats, speakers on campus, and attending rallies for various conservative causes.

Inez, I read on Adam Brickley’s comment page that you think you’ve been censored on this site. None of the comments that you have posted have been deleted, and will not be since you always post them with your name. The comment debate is about you and we’ll give you every right to participate.

  6. Lies? April 9, 2009 at 2:25 pm #

Good to hear that comments aren’t being censored. Inez, did you notice that the student org link you posted lists Triton College Republicans as a current recognized organization?

  7. Inez Feltscher April 9, 2009 at 2:30 pm #

I apologize Alan, I mistook the delay for approval as a refusal to post. I didn’t understand then how the comment section worked on the blog. Again, apologies.

  8. Alan April 9, 2009 at 2:40 pm #

No worries. We started getting a bunch of whack job lib comments so all comments are approved manually. Once you’ve been approved your comments go on automatically.

Also, Triton College Republicans is (or should be soon) a recognized club at UCSD, as is College Republicans at UCSD. Their club was taken down from the website due to some technicality. I was curious as to why it was taken down for a week, so I went and asked.

  10. Inez Feltscher April 9, 2009 at 3:11 pm #

I have no wish to post anything I cannot empirically prove, hence the above retraction.

It is disappointing to read that the “Triton College Republicans do in fact have meetings, and table twice a week” when a simple Google search can only come up with the club’s information with the school as well as a dozen or more links to the controversy that club has been linked to. See the link for yourself:
