Former US Ambassador the UN John Bolton calls the Iranian election a sham at politico, “what was stunning was that the Western media fell for the whole charade, although it was par for reporters whose political bias frequently obscures reality, whether in Iran or America. It was also par for Obama’s style of governance, which views speech making as a relaxing, convenient substitute for presidential action.”
Christopher Hitchens says the “election” was no election at all, “any voting exercise is, by definition, over before it has begun, because the all-powerful Islamic Guardian Council determines well in advance who may or may not “run.” Any newspaper referring to the subsequent proceedings as an election, sometimes complete with rallies, polls, counts, and all the rest of it, is the cause of helpless laughter among the ayatollahs.”
